For the Kitchen: Plates

My kitchen is in a sad state. If I'm going to be serious about eating well, I need something pretty to put that lovely food on. First up, plates! I don't want a large matching set, seems old fashion. I am going to start collecting singles or small sets that catch my eye.

  1. Hiya and congrats on the new blog! Look forward to checking out and cooking up your real-life recipes, although photos will make my tummy grumble ;-) Agree presentation makes the dish and some of plates above are very cute decor. But IMVHO there are some reasons many chefs/ restos stick to investing in simpler food-based colours, wood grain etc. for dishes and just do "busy" accent plates for breads, bits & pieces. Maybe play with shapes, size and borders more vs. patterned middles in your mix-and-match sets. And happy collecting!

  2. Hi GF, Thanks for your plate thoughts. :) I think I want to replace the plates I have now with white antiqued/ slightly distressed plates. I just got Jamie Oliver's COOK book and it is filled with plates like this, food looks lovely on them. I bought the plate from the blog logo last night and I'm going to hit the local antique mall iso more. I want a bunch of different ones that go together because they're all white, but have different raised decoration.

I also bought the EIffel plate and black Zinnias last night, couldn't resist :) I think your right though, it's tricky to present food on such colorful plates. The black plate might be good for holding light colored nibbles and the Eiffel plate is pretty much just a cute border once you cover up the center. BUT I think these types will find themselves prettying up the kitchen more than used daily
